A wealthy multimillionaire had been lying in a coma for three years… until an orphan girl did something no one expected. Rain pelted the windows of Saint-Raphaël Hospital, a gray, steady rhythm that had become the soundtrack of Patricia’s life. For three long years, her husband Fernand had lain in a suite, connected to machines that breathed for him.

The doctors spoke in hushed tones of a “persistent vegetative state,” suggesting she let him go. But Patricia refused. Their daughter Camille, just five, had died in the same accident that had left Fernand comatose, and sitting vigil over him had become her sole reason to carry on.

One day, Xavier—Fernand’s cousin—and his wife Marcelle entered without knocking. They had taken “temporary” control of Fernand’s construction empire and pressured Patricia to disconnect the machines, claiming it was time to declare his incapacity and restructure the business. “You can’t cling to a ghost,” Xavier said coldly.

“I will not unplug him,” Patricia replied, exhausted but unwavering. When they left, she remained alone by his bedside, tears streaming down her face. “Give me a sign, my love,” she whispered.

“Just one sign that you’re still here…”

At that exact moment, the bedroom door opened again. A small, drenched girl stepped inside, clutching a worn doll. Her large, dark eyes fixed on Patricia with a mix of fear and determination.

“My name is Lina,” she said softly. “I was told he’s here.”

She glanced at Fernand and pulled a medallion from her pocket, engraved with the initials F.D. “I found this in the car from the accident.

I was there too… my parents died that day. But it wasn’t an accident. Someone cut the brakes.

My father spoke a name before he died… Xavier.”

The room went silent. Then, suddenly, one of the machines began to beep. Fernand’s fingers twitched.

The doctors rushed in. Slowly, he opened his eyes and whispered:

“Camille… Patricia…” Patricia broke down in tears. After three long years, he was awake.

A reopened investigation revealed that Xavier had sabotaged the brakes to seize control of the family business. Lina became a key witness, and Xavier and Marcelle were arrested. Some time later, in the hospital garden, Fernand watched Patricia and Lina laughing together.

“She needs a family,” Patricia murmured. “And we need her,” Fernand replied. “Can I stay?” Lina asked timidly.

Patricia hugged her tightly. “You’re already home.”

For the first time in three years, light returned to their lives.
