I never told my ex-husband or his wealthy family that I secretly owned the multi-billion-dollar

The room was filled with an eerie quiet, as if the air itself realized the gravity of the situation before any of them did. Brendan’s once confident smirk wavered, replaced by a hint of confusion and unease. Diane looked around, her expression faltering, while Jessica’s laughter trailed off into an awkward silence.

As I sat there, drenched and shivering, I felt a strange sense of calm wash over me. For the first time in years, I felt in control. The humiliation they intended to inflict upon me had backfired, and now they were the ones squirming in their seats.

Brendan cleared his throat, attempting to regain his composure. “Cassidy, I don’t know what kind of game you’re playing, but it’s not funny. You can’t just make demands and expect us to—”

Just then, his phone buzzed loudly on the table, cutting him off.

His eyes flicked down to the screen, and he hesitated before picking it up. The color drained from his face as he read the message. One by one, the others received similar notifications, their phones vibrating with an incessant urgency.

“What the hell is this?” Diane’s voice quivered slightly, an uncharacteristic hint of fear seeping through. She glanced at Brendan, seeking reassurance. Brendan’s hands shook as he scrolled through the messages.

“It’s… it’s from the board,” he stammered. “They’re shutting everything down. Every account, every project—we’re being locked out.”

The realization hit them like a tidal wave.

The multi-billion-dollar conglomerate they thought they ruled was slipping through their fingers. Their positions, their power, their wealth—it was all dangling by a thread, and I held the scissors. Diane’s eyes turned to me, wide with disbelief.

“You did this,” she accused, her voice rising in panic. I met her gaze steadily, unflinching. “You underestimated me,” I said simply.

“And now you’re going to see the consequences.”

Jessica’s confidence crumbled, her perfectly manicured hands trembling as she clutched her phone. “Brendan, do something!” she urged, desperation lacing her voice. But Brendan could only stare at me, a mix of anger and bewilderment in his eyes.

“Cassidy… why?”

I stood slowly, water still dripping from my clothes, and faced them all. “For years, I’ve endured your contempt and cruelty,” I began, my voice clear and unwavering. “You dismissed me as insignificant, a burden.

But while you were busy mocking me, I was building an empire—an empire you all depended on.”

I paused, letting my words sink in. “And now, you will learn what it means to lose everything.”

Their reactions varied—Diane’s face contorted with rage, Brendan looked like a man who had just witnessed his own downfall, and Jessica seemed on the verge of tears. But none of them could refute the reality unfolding before them.

As I turned to leave, I felt the weight of their stares on my back, the once-loud room now filled with a heavy silence. I knew they would never forget this moment, the day they realized the true power dynamics at play. I had walked in as the “poor pregnant burden” they derided, but I walked out as the woman who had dismantled their world with a single phone call.

And as I stepped into the cool evening air, I smiled, knowing that, for the first time, I was free.
